Step back in time!

The Bungalow, as it is referred to locally, is a late 19th century summer house overlooking a coconut grove, nested in shadows of Bogmalo beach. The Bungalow was built locally sourced laterite, mud and lime plaster, covered with a Mangalore tiled roof supported by coconut rafters, all sustainable materials, locally sourced.

The Bungalow estimated to be built circa 1800s, was designed to be a rest house(Casa de Mudanca) for the landlord and his family who would relocate temporarily for vacations and other estate duties. During this stay, they would oversee works on the coconut plantations: harvest(paadó), toddy tapping and the upkeep of the coconut estate.

Originally belonging to the Piedade Xavier Family from Chicalim, whose only child Dª. Ana Quitéria da Piedade Xavier e Quadros married Dr. Manuel António de São Vicente da Paul de Quadros of Loutulim, circa 1840s, the Bungalow and the entire estate came to be inherited by the Quadros family in 1869.

The Bungalow was renovated in 1981 when glass replaced seashell window panes, besides the addition of other amenities. Most recently, in 2021-22, the fifth generation descendants of the Quadros family undertook extensive restoration works. The roof received a complete restoration. Modern amenities like attached toilets were added to each room while maintaining the originality and scale of the home. The mud walls, tiled roof, together with plenty of windows, ensures natural light and a cool ambience through the day.

A stay at the Bungalow gives one an experience of the 19th century with the comforts of the 21st century.
